It takes time!
If I can teach my kids only one thing – that will be it. There is no overnight success, it takes a lot of time and a tremendous amount of work to be successful.
Why would I pick that lesson among many other things to teach them?
Well, it’s becoming ever more important to make them understand the world as it is and not as it looks through the lenses of social media.
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others are spilling out “overnight success stories” such as:
- 2-3 year-old companies now valued at billion dollars
- influencers with millions of people following them
- making money online from “simply creating YouTube” videos or streaming on Twitch
Every news article or a post covering some of the above, conveniently omits what it took the person or the team to reach that level.
Guru’s are sharing their shortcuts to wealth and prosperity:
- 5 things you need to do to get rich
- Grow your following in a month, in a week
Everything looks easy, everything seems possible in the shortest amount of time. It is not and it will never be. Such false narratives create a false understanding of how the world actually works. They are detrimental to the well-being due to the wrong expectations they set.
We need to stop that. We need to learn that it takes time. All the good things in life take time and there are no shortcuts or lifehacks. There aren’t.
